Literacy is a big focus of first grade. This year we are utilizing Lucy Calkins' Reader's and Writer's workshop. We will begin the year reading and writing right away! The first units of study will help us establish reading and writing routines that will help our year flow slowly and allow students to become great readers and writers.
We will also incorporate a read aloud time during snack most days, and word work every day. Word work will consist of spelling patterns, vowel studies, and making words activities.
We are still developing our literacy schedule, so check back for more information!
