Hello families!
I'm so sorry for not being prompt with my blog posts! I have been planning on posting every week, so hopefully I can get better at that!
We have had an awesome first month of school. Our first graders have been learning so much in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies! We have met some Beanie Baby friends that help us sound out new words while reading. Ask your child about Lips the Fish, Stretchy Snake, Chunky Monkey, Flippy Dolphin, Skippy Frog and Tryin' Lion! We have been using them every day during our reading time! We'll continue to meet new friends throughout the year to help us with our reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary!
During writing time, we have been working on developing our ideas, focusing our writing to one topic, and using quality details. We have been focusing on the "Ideas" part of the Six Traits for Writing, and will soon be moving onto the organization of our writing. There have been so many great stories coming from the students, and we are excited to have our volunteers start to help us publish them!
In math, we've completed our first unit and are beginning working on new math skills such as counting coins and using the 100 chart as a tool for adding and subtracting. Thank you for helping your children with their math homework each night. It's really helping with their confidence of their newfound math skills!
Starting this month, we will be rotating classes for science, so your children will get to have Mrs. Schild, Mrs. DuBois, and Mrs. Destache for teachers, too! We will be learning about the weather, the four seasons, and the water cycle.
In social studies, we are beginning to discuss the school community and continue reading our Time for Kids and Social Studies Weekly Readers.
Thanks for all your help and support so far this year! We have a great class and are accomplishing great things! I'm so excited to continue the year with lots of fun learning opportunities!
